The Inferno Is a 1400 Horsepower Supercar Concept With a 'Metal Foam' Body
Is this the latest piece of supercar vaporware?
This
is the Inferno Exotic Car (that's its full name), designed by Antonio
Ferraioli, whose past experience includes engineering components for the
Lamborghini Veneno Roadster, Aventador SV, and the Gallardo Super Trofeo. The looks certainly are radical, combining Hot Wheels-like styling with five exhaust pipes and some, ummmm, eye catching red detailing.
The
twin-turbo V8 allegedly develops 1400-hp and 670 lb-ft of torque, which
the company says makes the Inferno go from 0-62 mph in less than three
seconds. The car's weird skin is also noteworthy. Formed from a patented
formula of zinc, aluminum, and silver, the "metal foam" compound is
An exclusive material that improves security, since it can decrease and absorb the impact in a car crash. This material's strength is compared with that of a commercial armored vehicle, but with a big weight difference . . . This metal can stretch until achieving 100 times its original length without affecting its properties.
Basically,
it's a porous metal substance that is very light and better at
absorbing impact energy. However, metal foam is a substance that has
never before been used on a car. We have no idea how this would affect
the cost of the Inferno and the website hasn't listed a price on the car
that was engineered in Mexico and built in Italy, either.
And
if you've noticed that this post is riddled with alleged claims
speculation, that's because this is yet another supercar from a carmaker
that came seemingly out of left field. It's throwing out horsepower and
production claims that haven't been verified. We don't know what the
future holds for the Inferno. It could be the next Pagani or Koenigsegg,
but it could also easily be the next Lyons or Youabian. Only time will tell.
